Clash of Critters Evolution Guide: Stars, Trials & Tier 4

Stars first, then trials

  1. Stars come from duplicates: 1–5 copies per star for the first six (bronze) stars, then 5 per star (silver), 7 (gold through gold crescent), 9, 11, 13, 15 as you climb to 78. See stars and duplicates.
  2. Trials unlock at the line’s star threshold. You may have one Tatari “on trial” at a time and can switch once per day; switching resets the non-retroactive trial, and only one Tatari can finish a trial per day.
  3. Evolve when both trials are done. Evolution keeps the line’s stars.

Most Purple lines evolve to T2 at 6 bronze stars (Rubblet → Cobbledon: 6 stars + kill 300 Zobos; Zappur: 6 stars + land 10 pinballs in the Star Slot; Voltfawn: 6 stars + kill 300 Zobos). Zapup is the exception — it becomes Zapooch at 1 star.

Tier 3 trials (Nov 6, 2025 rework)

The old varied trials were replaced by a two-part template: feed the Tatari to raise its stats 3 times plus an element task:

ElementT3 event task
Water2,000 Fishing Rods in Fishing Contest, or 2,000 skateboards/snowboards in Marathon Party / Snowboard Sprint
Fire2,000 skateboards/snowboards, or 2,000 Fertilizer in Cozy Farm
GrassShoot 20,000 pinballs
RockUse 5,000 Energy Drinks in Island Goldrush
LightningDig 70 treasure tiles in Treasure Hunt (was 60 before Dec 4, 2025), or 2,000 Fertilizer in Cozy Farm

Exceptions recorded on the wiki: Frostique (clear Chapter 8 Stage 80), Hellhound (20,000 pinballs), Frugagon (reach Difficulty 12 in any Boss Challenge), Ospisces and Dazopus (2,000 rods or 20,000 coins in Fishing/Zobo Shooter), Nekoflare (5,000 energy in Gold Rush). The official Lightning guide lists Lightning T2 trials as “increase attributes 3 times via feeding + participate in Treasure Hunt or Cozy Farm” for the current version, so expect small per-patch differences — the in-game trial screen is final.

Tier 4 trials

From the official Lightning guide: feed to Rating B, participate in Marathon Party or Fishing Contest, plus a line condition — own three 24-star Lightning Tatari (Zappur, Zapuni, Cheerling), feed 15 Gold Tempura Plates (Voltfawn), or use 20,000 Energy Drinks (Voltkit). The Jul 1, 2026 patch lets you preview higher-tier trials once you own enough Gold/Red Tatari and shows whether the required event is currently running.

Which lines reach Tier 4

As of v0.46, 45 of 63 lines have four stages, 8 have three, and the 10 Blue lines have two. Each biweekly patch has added two T4 forms: Hierotyrus (Humbug) and Umbraveil (Zaplet) on Jul 1; Hychroma (Skinklet) and Ecstamira (Funglet) on Jul 15; Saberheart (Tindercub) and Kaiseroo (Joeyo) on Jul 29; Technocan (Sparkeet) and Blastniff (Fumekit) on Aug 12. Every line’s stages are listed in the Tatari database.

What evolution changes

Evolved forms get a stronger version of the base skill (Frostnip’s ice block → Frostique splits into piercing shards → Frostluna adds Aura: Water), higher stat grades, and in Horde Invasion a better base skill while the level 3/5/7 Horde skills stay shared across the line. Many T4 forms add an element aura (Aura: Fire/Water/Grass/Rock) — the reason mono-element lanes get stronger late. Rarity colour also shifts (Purple → Gold → Red → Rainbow), which is what Dojo unlocks and Zobo Shooter hit chances key off.

Practical order

Do not hoard: evolve the line you use to T2 as soon as it hits 6 stars; start T3 trials on the line you will actually carry (official priority: Electroar first among Lightning T2→T3, then Voltling/Sparkdoe). The evolution priority guide has the full order and the “tatari list best to evolve” answer.
